What Makes This Opportunity Special?
As an Apprentice Technician, you’ll work side by side with senior experts to preserve, restore, and maintain an extraordinary collection of historic vehicles. Whether it’s reviving a classic muscle car, fine-tuning a pre-war automobile, or ensuring our running fleet is ready for exhibitions and events, you’ll be at the heart of automotive history in action.
What You’ll Be Doing
From day one, you’ll be immersed in the world of automotive restoration and preservation. Your hands-on training will include:
- Vehicle maintenance and repair, including oil changes, brake checks, tire rotations, and diagnosing mechanical issues
- Restoration techniques, such as sanding, priming, painting, and upholstery repair
- Hands-on learning with specialized tools and diagnostic equipment
- Collections care, ensuring museum vehicles are properly maintained for display and operation
- Diagnostic and problem-solving skills for both mechanical and electrical systems in classic cars
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
- Be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Have completed an automotive technology-based educational program (high school or technical college)
- Be passionate about classic cars and eager to expand their knowledge of automotive history
- Have the ability to work hands-on with historic vehicles and master a variety of restoration techniques
- Be a team player who can thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

RPM Apprentice Lindsey Stone, who has been working with the Jack Frost Car Museum in Detroit, recently participated in the Fuller 5 Day Build Challenge at Fuller Moto in Atlanta, an ambitious project that pushed the boundaries of automotive craftsmanship. While RPM Foundation’s mission focuses on preservation and restoration, this unique experience provided Lindsey with invaluable exposure to cutting-edge fabrication techniques and industry-leading experts, such as Will Lockwood, Chip Foose and Bryan Fuller.
The collector vehicle restoration industry faces a serious challenge: a shortage of skilled professionals. With fewer training programs available, the rising cost of education, and a growing gap between students and entry-level workers, the future of automotive restoration is at risk. That’s where the RPM Apprenticeship Program comes in. Our program transforms world-class restoration shops into hands-on classrooms where aspiring technicians can earn while they learn . Through paid apprenticeships, students gain valuable skills under the guidance of industry experts. By working alongside seasoned professionals, apprentices develop the intricate craftsmanship necessary to restore and preserve classic cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other collector vehicles. At the Motorcar Cavalcade in Miami this February, students from the Central Carolina Community College’s school of Automotive Restoration presented the result of their hard work and dedication – a modified 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe, which was arranged for donation to the school by Motorcar Cavalcade Executive Director Jason Wenig. CCCC students utilized their newly learned technical skills to breathe new life into this iconic classic vehicle, performing a body-off transformation. The Ford was brought down to bare sheet metal, and hundreds of hours of fabrication, body, paint, mechanical, and interior work resulted in the completed project. This gorgeous custom car was unveiled in the RPM Foundation space at the Motorcar Cavalcade event. Special thanks to the donor of the Ford, Bob Varker, who generously gave this car to the school for the benefit of the restoration program.
